Things to Do in Guilin: Choose by Days, Not a Checklist
The best things to do in Guilin depend on how many days you have, not on a fixed list. The number of days varies by itinerary: 3, 5, or 7. Most first-time visitors try to squeeze Longji Rice Terraces and Yulong River bamboo rafting into one day, and that is the fastest way to ruin both.

This guide uses the day blocks from our three Guilin itineraries to show what actually fits. Official opening hours and ticket availability still change, so verify before you go.
Best Things Depend on Days
The number of days varies by itinerary: 3, 5, or 7. The difference is not just more sights; it is where you sleep and how much backtracking you accept.
- 3 days: Longji Rice Terraces, Silver Cave, Yulong River bamboo rafting, West Street, Taohuayuan, Xianggong Mountain, and a food street.
- 5 days: The 3-day core plus a full Longji day with Ping'an Zhuang Village and a slower Yangshuo split.
- 7 days: Adds Reed Flute Cave, Seven Star Park, Elephant Trunk Hill, a Li River boat ride, Ten Mile Gallery cycling, and optional helicopter or countryside time.
For a first trip with limited time, the Guilin 3D2N Tour works if you accept two busy days. The Guilin 5D4N Tour is the middle ground most private clients choose. The Guilin 7D6N Tour suits travelers who want a slower pace and more variety.
Longji and Yulong Go Opposite Ways
Longji Rice Terraces and Yulong River bamboo rafting are in opposite directions from Guilin, so a 3-day itinerary must place them on separate days. Longji sits roughly two hours north of Guilin; Yulong River is south, near Yangshuo. Trying to do both in one day means four-plus hours in a car and a rushed afternoon raft.

Half day: Longji in the morning with Ping'an Zhuang Village, then back to Guilin for dinner. Full day: Longji alone, with time to walk between terraces. Rafting day: Silver Cave in the morning, Yulong River in the afternoon, West Street at night.
If you only have three days, the Guilin 3D2N Tour already splits them: Day 1 Longji, Day 2 Silver Cave and Yulong. That is the only workable sequence. For more on Longji timing, read Longji Rice Terraces Trip Planning.
What Each Itinerary Includes
Each itinerary includes specific activities such as Silver Cave, Xianggong Mountain, and West Street, with the sequence and overnight city adjusted to reduce backtracking. The overnight base matters more than the sight list.
- 3 days: Two nights in Yangshuo after a first night in Guilin; Longji on Day 1, then Silver Cave, Yulong, West Street, Taohuayuan, Xianggong Mountain, food street.
- 5 days: Two nights in Guilin, then two in Yangshuo; Longji gets a full day with Ping'an, and Day 4 adds Xianggong Mountain and Taohuayuan.
- 7 days: Three nights in Guilin, three in Yangshuo; adds Reed Flute Cave, Seven Star Park, Elephant Trunk Hill, Li River boat ride, Ten Mile Gallery cycling, and optional helicopter.

The 5-day and 7-day versions are not just longer; they change where you wake up. A Yangshuo base removes the daily drive back to Guilin. For a closer look at the 5-day flow, see Guilin 5 Days 4 Nights Tour.
Weather May Shift Outdoor Plans
Weather can affect outdoor activities like bamboo rafting; alternative indoor options or flexible scheduling should be considered. Yulong River rafting closes in heavy rain or high water, and Longji terraces are less rewarding in thick fog.

- Silver Cave works in any weather and can swap with a rafting slot.
- Xianggong Mountain sunrise is pointless in heavy cloud; go late morning instead.
- West Street and food streets are indoor-friendly fallbacks.
- Ten Mile Gallery cycling is miserable in rain; save it for a clear afternoon.
A private tour can reorder the day, but it cannot change the weather. If rafting is your priority, plan a flexible morning and confirm conditions the night before.
Check Official Hours Before You Go
Private tours can arrange the order of visits to match your pace, but official opening hours and ticket availability remain subject to change. We do not control ticket quotas, seasonal closures, or last-minute maintenance.
- Curious beginner: Pick the 3-day tour and accept that you will not see everything.
- Photographer: Choose 5 or 7 days; Xianggong Mountain and Longji need clear mornings.
- Slow traveler: The 7-day tour gives you two Yangshuo afternoons with no fixed agenda.
TravelToQin can build a private Guilin itinerary around your dates and walking limits, but we cannot create extra tickets or guarantee a cloudless sunrise. Send your available days and must-do list through contact.
