@ Kaifeng Fu — a grand reconstruction of the Northern Song dynasty government complex, showcasing imperial-era architecture and cultural performances. Millennium City Park (Qingming Shanghe Yuan) — a vast themed park recreating the bustling city life depicted in the famous Song-dynasty painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival. Optional: Longting Scenic Area (best in October).

@ Night market in Kaifeng. 1.5-hour drive back to Zhengzhou. Drop off to hotel. Dinner at a recommended restaurant.

@ 1.5-hour drive to Shaolin Temple — the legendary birthplace of Chinese kung fu and Chan Buddhism, set against the forested slopes of Song Mountain.

@ Shaolin cable car ride up the mountain. Shaolin kung fu show — a dramatic live performance of traditional kung fu forms. Shaolin kung fu teaching session.

* Longmen Grottoes · Sui & Tang Luoyang City Heritage Park

@ 40-minute drive to Longmen Grottoes — a UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 100,000 Buddhist stone carvings carved into limestone cliffs along the Yi River over five centuries.

~ Afternoon
@ Sui and Tang Luoyang City National Heritage Park — reconstructed Tang-dynasty imperial palace complex including Yingtian Gate and the magnificent Mingtang and Tiantang ceremonial halls.


~ Night
@ Luoyang ancient city evening stroll. Drop off to Luoyang hotel. Dinner at a recommended restaurant.

* Sanmenxia Dam · Shan Zhou Silo-Cave

@ 1.5-hour drive to Sanmenxia. Sanmenxia Dam Scenic Area — one of China's major Yellow River hydroelectric dams, with viewing platforms over the surging river. Optional: Swan Lake National Urban Wetland Park (best October–March, when thousands of white swans overwinter here).


~ Afternoon
@ Shan Zhou Silo-Cave — ancient underground courtyard dwellings carved into the Loess Plateau, a unique architectural tradition unique to this region.

~ Night
@ Drop off to Sanmenxia hotel. Dinner at a recommended restaurant.
