Yangshuo Guilin China: Order the Two Bases by Days, Not by Hype
Most first-time visitors treat Guilin and Yangshuo as two separate bases and end up backtracking. Yangshuo Guilin China is best planned as a single corridor, not two hubs, because the Li River connects them and most travelers move between the two at least once. The order you choose depends on how many days you have, not on which town looks more famous in photos.

Longji Rice Terraces sit in the opposite direction from Yangshuo, so bundling them on the same day creates unnecessary driving. Our itineraries split them across days to reduce time in the car.
Which Order Fits Your Days in Guilin and Yangshuo?
For a 3-day trip, skip Longji and focus on Guilin city and Yangshuo countryside; for 5 days, add Longji as a separate day trip from Guilin before moving to Yangshuo; for 7 days, include both Longji and deeper Yangshuo rural areas. The best order depends on trip length, not on which town you land in first.
- 3 days: Guilin city and Yangshuo countryside only. Longji is too far north to fit without rushing.
- 5 days: Add Longji as a full day trip from Guilin before transferring to Yangshuo.
- 7 days: Include Longji plus deeper Yangshuo exploration like Yulong River and Xianggong Mountain.
The 3-day and 5-day tours both cover Silver Cave, Yulong River bamboo rafting, and Xianggong Mountain, but the 5-day adds Longji and a slower pace. The 7-day tour adds Reed Flute Cave, a Li River boat ride, and a helicopter tour. Days and attractions vary by itinerary, so check the specific product before booking. Guilin First, Yangshuo Second: The Corridor Logic
The Li River connects Guilin and Yangshuo, so planning them as a single corridor with Guilin first and Yangshuo second avoids unnecessary return trips. Starting in Guilin and ending in Yangshuo reduces backtracking because the river flows from Guilin to Yangshuo and the airport is in Guilin.
The Li River cruise or bamboo raft between Guilin and Yangshuo is the most efficient way to transfer, but it only works if you pack light and time it with your hotel check-in. Check-in in Yangshuo is usually after 2 PM, so a morning boat ride fits well if you have only a small bag.

For a 3-day trip, you can start in Guilin, do Longji on day one, then move to Yangshuo on day two. For 5 days, add a full Longji day before the transfer. The 7-day tour spends two nights in Guilin before moving to Yangshuo, giving you time for Reed Flute Cave and Seven Star Park.
Longji Is a Separate Direction from Yangshuo
Longji Rice Terraces and Yangshuo are in opposite directions from Guilin, so bundling them on the same day creates unnecessary backtracking; our itineraries split them across days to reduce driving time. Longji is about a 2-hour drive north of Guilin, while Yangshuo is south along the Li River.

If you try to do Longji and Yangshuo on the same day, you will spend four to five hours in the car just going back and forth. That is a full day of driving, not sightseeing. The 5-day tour puts Longji on day two and Yangshuo on day three, so each day has one direction.

Attractions by Itinerary: Silver Cave, Yulong, Xianggong
Silver Cave, Yulong River bamboo rafting, and Xianggong Mountain are included in the 3-day and 5-day tours, while the 7-day tour adds Reed Flute Cave, Li River boat ride, and a helicopter tour. The 3-day tour packs these into two Yangshuo days, which works if you move fast.
- Silver Cave: limestone cave with illuminated stalactites, about 40 minutes from Yangshuo.
- Yulong River bamboo rafting: gentle drift past karst hills, weather permitting.
- Xianggong Mountain: sunrise viewpoint over a sea of karst peaks, best early morning.

The 5-day tour gives you more breathing room: Silver Cave and Yulong on day three, Xianggong and Taohuayuan on day four. The 7-day tour adds a Li River boat ride from Xingping and a helicopter tour over the karst landscape. Check the specific itinerary for what is included each day.
Before You Go: Check Official Transport and Tickets
Check official sources for Li River cruise or bamboo raft schedules, road travel times, and attraction tickets before departure, as these can change without notice. The Li River boat ride from Xingping is about 1.5 hours, but water levels and weather can affect operations.

- Verify Li River cruise or bamboo raft schedules with the official operator.
- Check road conditions for the drive to Longji, especially after rain.
- Confirm ticket availability for Silver Cave and Xianggong Mountain during peak season.
