A Hangzhou private tour is a length decision, not a scavenger hunt around West Lake. Two days and three days are different products. A Shanghai coach loop that “does Hangzhou” in one daylight block is a third, weaker product.
TravelToQin runs this as private ground for your party only. We do not depart a mixed Hangzhou group. The two standard modules are Hangzhou 2D1N and Hangzhou 3D2N. Count nights from those names, not from a CMS field that disagrees with the itinerary logic.

If Hangzhou is only a rail day from Shanghai, you get a compressed Longjing walk and a lake circuit with little spare time. That can be enough for travelers who already spent three nights in Shanghai and only want a green contrast.
If Hangzhou is the reason you came to East China, stay. Lake light, tea fields, and an evening without a 19:00 train change the trip more than adding a second temple. Use Shanghai itinerary to decide whether Shanghai still needs its own full days before you steal one for Hangzhou.

Two days / one night works as a Shanghai-to-Hangzhou rail getaway: tea fields, one water activity, one focused outdoor block, hotel near the lake or in the hills, return the next afternoon. The published 2D1N shape includes Longjing and a nature/adventure add-on. Treat Heartbeat Park, glass skywalks, and kayak blocks as optional, not as the soul of Hangzhou. High-net-worth travelers who came for tea and lake walks should say so in the brief so those blocks are cut rather than endured.
Three days / two nights is the version that lets West Lake exist in more than one light. A typical private 3D2N keeps a lake cruise or lakeside walk, a Longjing session that is not a shopping script, and a third day for either a slower hill/water outing or a rest morning before the Shanghai or departure transfer.
Do not use the extra night to stack every park on the map. The extra night is for not rushing the lake.

West Lake is a walking and water problem: which bank, whether to cruise, how much shade, and when the causeways clog. A private vehicle helps for the hops between broken-bridge crowds and quieter banks; it does not replace walking.
Longjing is a landscape and a tasting, not a forced purchase. A good session explains cultivar, roast, and what you are being poured. A bad session times the exit through a tea-mall. Read Chinese tea culture for the national frame; Hangzhou days should stay local and short.

High-speed rail between Shanghai Hongqiao and Hangzhou East is the normal glue. Do not let the transfer eat the lake day. Arrive the evening before the first full Hangzhou day, or keep the last morning in Hangzhou and take a midday train so you are not packing at 06:30.
Private car door-to-door is useful for elders, lots of luggage, or a party that hates station changes. It is slower than rail in holiday traffic. Pick the tool; do not romanticize the highway.
Tickets, cruise operations, tea-estate access, and rail inventory stay with official and operator channels. TravelToQin plans the private vehicle, guide, and day order; we do not freeze West Lake weather or Longjing harvest dates.
If Hangzhou is part of a wider East China arc, pair it with gardens in Suzhou China gardens on a different day, not the same daylight. Send dates and the 2-versus-3 choice through contact. The useful reply is a night count, not a poem about the lake.
