Guilin 3 Days 2 Nights Tour: One River, One Night — and What to Drop

Guilin 3 Days 2 Nights Tour: One River, One Night — and What to Drop

September 10, 2026

TravelToQin Editorial Team

Three nights in Guilin is a single Yangshuo night and one river day. It is not the four-night itinerary compressed. The honest comparison: the Longji Rice Terraces and the Xianggong Hill sunrise are out, and the Yulong River raft fits as a half-day add. Trying to keep all four-night content in three nights means a checkout every morning and no actual rest.

This page is for private ground. We do not run fixed departures. The three-night cut below assumes your party only.

Three Days in Guilin: Cut Longji, Not the City Day

The structure that works:

  • Day 1: Guilin city + Li River cruise to Yangshuo + West Street evening
  • Day 2: Yulong River bamboo raft or Xingping ancient town (one, not both)
  • Day 3: Yangshuo slow morning + Guilin airport transfer

Three sites this page does not cover: Longji (one full day), Xianggong Hill sunrise (5:30 a.m. departure, eats Day 2), and Silver Cave (another half-day site).

For the full four-day Guilin version with Longji and the Xianggong Hill sunrise, see the Guilin four-night page.

Day 1 — Guilin City and Li River Cruise to Yangshuo

The morning in Guilin city can hold one or two anchor sights, depending on arrival time:

  • Elephant Trunk Hill: the city's symbolic landmark on the Li River; 30 to 45 minutes
  • Solitary Beauty Peak (Duxiu Feng): inside the old city wall; 45 to 60 minutes including the climb to the top
  • Zhengyang Pedestrian Street: the practical lunch stop near the Drum Tower; 60 to 90 minutes

The Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo runs 4 hours on a passenger boat, or 4.5 hours including the Nine Horse Fresco Hill stop. The boat lands at the Yangshuo wharf; West Street is a 15-minute walk from there.

West Street in the evening functions as a tourist eating strip, not a heritage site. Budget 90 minutes for a meal circuit. The food is fine; the bars are louder than they need to be; the shopping is the same tourist shopping as anywhere else.

Day 2 — Yulong River Raft or Xingping Ancient Town

This day is one half-day in the water, one half-day on foot. Both options work; neither fits as well as the other for every party.

Option A: Yulong River bamboo raft. The standard section is Jinlong Qiao (Golden Dragon Bridge) to Jiuxian (Old County), about 1.5 hours on the water. The raft is poled by a local operator; the water is calm. This is the more relaxing of the two options and pairs with a slow afternoon in Yangshuo town.

Option B: Xingping ancient town. A smaller town 30 minutes from Yangshuo, the section of the Li River that appears on the 20 RMB banknote runs nearby. Quieter than West Street, with the old fishing village atmosphere. Budget 2 to 3 hours including the riverside walk.

Do not stack the Yulong raft with the Xingping walk in the same day. Both are half-day events in different directions; combining them means doing both at half pace.

Day 3 — Yangshuo Slow Morning and Departure

The Yangshuo slow morning before the airport transfer has three soft options:

  • Ten Mile Gallery bike ride: a flat 6 km ride along the road south of Yangshuo, electric-assist bicycles are the practical choice. Budget 2 to 3 hours.
  • Yangshuo coffee morning: the cafés along West Street or by the river; budget 90 minutes for a relaxed breakfast
  • Local market walk: the agricultural market near the wharf; budget 60 minutes for a quick loop

Then transfer to Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (KWL), about 1.5 hours by private vehicle. For most international flights this works as a half-day morning before the airport. For evening flights, the slow morning still applies.

If You Want Xianggong Hill Sunrise

The Xianggong Hill sunrise is a real draw for photographers, but it sits at 5:30 a.m. departure from Yangshuo with the climb starting at first light. In a three-night itinerary, the sunrise means skipping the Day 2 morning activity (the Yulong raft or the Xingping walk) and going straight from the sunrise return to the airport.

That is a workable cut only if the Day 2 activity is genuinely not the priority. For most parties, picking one of the two options above and keeping Day 2 normal is the cleaner plan.

What Three Days Will Not Hold

The following are out of scope for a three-night Guilin trip:

  • Longji Rice Terraces — full-day drive, eats the Yulong River or Xingping half-day
  • Xianggong Hill sunrise — pre-dawn departure, eats Day 2 morning
  • Silver Cave — half-day site, requires cutting the slow morning
  • Huangyao Ancient Town — full-day drive

Guilin Private Ground and Booking

For private trips we operate, the Li River cruise tickets, the Yulong bamboo raft, and the private vehicle between Guilin and Yangshuo are coordinated by TravelToQin before the departure date. The cruise and raft operators enforce their own boarding rules and weather cancellations; we handle the planning around those, not the river conditions.

If the shape above fits, send your arrival date, party size, and a one-line answer on whether Xianggong Hill sunrise is on the priority list through contact. The first reply confirms whether three nights is the right cut, or whether the four-night shape with Longji is the better fit.
