Winter (December–February)

Northern winters are cold and dry. Harbin’s ice festival and Beijing’s clear air after snow can be excellent if you pack real warmth. Southern cities stay milder. Expect shorter outdoor hours and heating-heavy interiors—schedule outdoor sights for the brightest part of the day.

Holiday Crowds Worth Planning Around

Chinese New Year (dates shift yearly) and National Day Golden Week (early October) push trains, flights, and major sites to peak capacity.
