@ Chaotianmen Square — the dramatic promontory at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, with sweeping views of both waterfronts. Kuixing Tower — classical hilltop pavilion with panoramic two-river views.

~ Night

@ Floating City-Hongyadong — the illuminated cliff-face stilt-house complex. Optional: river cruise. Drop off to hotel. Dinner at a recommended restaurant.

* Light Rail Scenic Ride · Shancheng Lane · 18 Steps District · Jiefangbei Street

@ Breakfast. 30-minute light rail ride from Jiaochangkou to Fotuguan — the train famously passes through the middle of a residential high-rise. Alight at Lizibu Light Rail Station.

~ Afternoon

@ Shancheng Lane — a restored stepped street of Republican-era shophouses cut into the hillside, now lined with cafés and galleries. 18 Steps District (Shibati) — a reconstructed heritage neighbourhood of old Chongqing stilt houses and courtyard alleys.

~ Night

@ Jiefangbei Street — Chongqing's dazzling commercial centre. Drop off to hotel. Dinner at a recommended hotpot restaurant.

* Ciqikou Ancient Town · Dazu Rock Carvings / 1949 Revolving Theatre

~ Morning

@ Ciqikou Ancient Town — a well-preserved Ming-and-Qing-dynasty riverside town with teahouses, silk shops and street-food stalls.

~ Afternoon

@ Option A: Dazu Rock Carvings — UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 50,000 Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist stone sculptures carved into cliff faces between the 7th and 13th centuries.

@ Option B: Chongqing 1949 Revolving Theatre — an immersive rotating stage show bringing wartime Chongqing history to life.

* Wulong · Three Natural Bridges

@ Wake up early for a full-day excursion to the Wulong area.
